Table 1

Key simulation parameters.

Parameter Unit Description
m ̇ $ \dot{m}$ kg/s Mass flow of CO2 to be pressurised.
Pin Pa The feed pressure of the un-pressurised CO2.
Tin K The feed temperature of the un-pressurised CO2, also used for the inter-cooling temperature.
Pfinal Pa The final pressure of the pressurised CO2.
Pliq Pa The liquefaction pressure. If set, this is used as the final pressure of the compression part of the pressurisation at which the CO2 is liquefied and pumped to the final pressure.
Tliq K If Pliq is above the critical point, this parameter specifies the temperature the CO2 is cooled to before being pumped in the dense phase region.
dP Pa Pressure drop applied to each compressor after/inter-cooler.
nstage Number of compression stages. Integer value.
ϵcomp Isentropic efficiency of the CO2 compressors. Decimal value between 0 and 1.
ϵpump Isentropic efficiency of the liquid/dense phase CO2 pump. Decimal value between 0 and 1.
ϵrefrig Isentropic efficiency of the refrigerant compressor. Decimal value between 0 and 1.
Tsub K Sub-cooling in the refrigerant condenser.
Tsup K Super-heating in the refrigerant evaporator (CO2 condenser/cooler).
Tcond K Condensing temperature of the refrigerant.
Tamb K Ambient air temperature. Used for calculation of air cooled heat exchangers.
Tcool K Cooling medium temperature. Used for calculation of Shell & Tube heat exchangers.
