Emission breakdown by fuel from 1973 to 2016. From 2006 to 2016, global energy-related CO2 emissions rose by over a third to 55.3 Mt CO2 since 1990. In 2016, 64% of emissions were from oil, 31% from coal, primarily linked to power generation. Source: International Energy Agency (IEA) [14].
