Hybrid renewable energies for rural/urban electrification in emerging economies: A bibliometric review

Abstract
Limited economic viability, energy scarcity, rising power costs, geographical limits, and infrastructural issues are the main challenges of regional electrical network growth. Though intermittent, renewable energy is clean, sustainable, and infinite. Off-grid or grid-connected hybrid renewable energy solutions solve these issues. This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the large integration of renewable energy systems in emerging regions using bibliometrics. It summarizes scientific advances and trends from 2014 to 2023 using statistical analysis and publication features. Scopus yielded 1222 bibliographic entries for this analysis. This review looks at the number of publications, the most prolific authors, citations, country productivity, country-author collaboration, and journals that publish hybrid renewable energy system articles in poor countries. The proposed bibliometric study will guide end-users in relation to system planning, sizing, and siting for the deployment of future renewable energy systems. The widespread use of keywords related to “renewable energy,” “hybrid renewable energy system,” “microgrids,” and “rural electrification” in scientific journals highlights the significance of conducting collaborative studies in these topics.
